Independent consultancy Job. Survey of the 3 Mondi Akrosil Plants in New Jersey, Ohio and Wisconsin. Assessing strengths and weaknesses, assessing competitiveness of Ohio plant for the Graphics Market, building data for the annual plan presentation.

Independent consultancy Job. Providing guidance to the local management team in starting up a number of Lean Sigma activities, including Managing for Daily improvement, Development of planning wheels for the manufacturing lines, a Kaizen for an improved product development procedure and training on A-3 strategy development.

Global Director for Manufacturing Strategy and Technology
Responsible for a number of large projects within the Division. Reporting initially to the Global Operations and Supply Chain Director. Later to the Global VP of Marketing.
Responsible for the global Capital Investment Budget, approx. US $ 10 Mio./annum
During this period Graphics and Reflective Division lost its independent Manufacturing operations.
These were merged into a larger sister Division in September 2009.
Major projects during this period: 2007-2008, product line simplification of North American Graphics Division. 2008-2009 Merging the US Cincinatti DC into the Fairport Manufacturing site, 2009 Transfering the US paper based business to a sister Division. 2009-2010 Standardizing the Graphics Flagship product Portfolio (Cast Vinyls) between the European and US Manufacturing Sites. 2010 Consolidating the European Paper based business in the Schwelm (Germany) plant including moving the production equipment. 2010-2011 Global product portfolio strategy and simplification. 2010-2011

Acting Global Director of Operations
The Division developed, produced and sold polymeric self adhesive products for outdoor use, and paper self adhesive products for the offset printing industry.
Annual turnover 500 mio U.S.$ , total number of employees approx. 1300, serving the global market
As Director of Operations I was member of the Divisional Leadership team.
Operations responsibilities included, base product manufacturing (coating), conversion into finished product and packaging, total number of finished product codes approx.14,000

Ten sites: Alphen and Hazerswoude Plants, The Netherlands, Schwelm Plant, Germany, Kunshan Plant, China, Painesville (OH), Fairport(OH), Lowell(IN),Cincinatti(OH),Mt Prospect(MI) and Niles(MI) plants in U.S.A.
Initiated lean manufacturing concepts in our North American plants.


1997- 2006 Avery Dennison, Graphics Division-Europe
Director of Operations
Annual turnover 250 mio U.S. $, total number of employees approx. 600, serving the European, African and part of the Asian market.
Director of Operations was member of the Divisional Leadership team.
Operations responsibilities included, base product manufacturing (coating), conversion into finished product and packaging, total number of finished product codes approx. 4,000.
Total number of employees in operations, 425 of which 355, direct labour and 70 IME
Three sites, Alphen Plant (NL), (65 employees), Hazerswoude plant(NL), (250), Schwelm Graphics plant (Germany, 110), A fourth site in Modena, Italy was closed per January 2004

Dutch operations implemented a process to turn the Operations into a “World Class Manufacturing” Unit.
The process involved , introduction of Kan-Ban planning techniques, Total Productive Maintenance and Quick Change-Over (SMED). Subsequently we started to introduce the 6 Sigma improvement concept in our Operations.
The German production facilities (part of a larger site) became my responsibility per June 2002 due to the merger between Avery Dennison and Jackstaedt, a German , privately owned , self adhesive manufacturer. At the same time the small Modena plant was added, part of an earlier acquisition of an Italian Company. Modena activities were transferred to Germany and site was closed down.

Between October 1998 and Januari 2001, in charge of extending Graphics Manufacturing facilities by adding a site in Asia
Overall project responsibility rested with me, site selection , obtaining business licence and permits as well as Plant design were done, when the project had to be turned over to a sister Division within Avery

1995 -1996 Avery Dennison, Marking Films Division - Europe
Director of Operations.
responsibilities included
Operations Alphen plant, approx. 70 staff,
Operations Divisional Distribution Center, 20 staff.
Operations Hazerswoude coating plant, taken over from Avery Merchant Products Division per March 1995, approx. 110 staff.
For each site operations included, actual production, Quality Control , Engineering and EHS
The Divisional Distribution Center was moved from its Leyden location to the Hazerswoude site during this period.

1991-1994 Avery Dennison, Marking Films Division-Europe,
Plant Manager Alphen Plant
Producing self adhesive polymeric films for outdoor application. At the time plant counted some 80 staff.
Also responsible for the Divisional Distribution Centre, situated in Leyden, where self adhesive laminates were converted into finished products, packed and shipped to customers in 17 European Countries. The Centre counted 30 staff.

1989–1991 Avery-Dennison, Materials Group Europe
Director of Research & Technology,
Responsible for the staff department Research & Technology (42 employees)
Responsible for developing and executing a research program that fulfilled the needs of 5 Avery Divisions.
From Sept. 1990 till May 1991, I was responsible for dismantling this staff department, reducing the 42 people staff to 12 and moving the development programs and remaining staff to the Divisional R&D groups
